Self-Care Is a Lie: It's Time to Reclaim Your Life
Apr 14, 2025I’ll be honest: I don’t even know what self-care means anymore.
Somewhere between raising kids, managing careers, holding relationships together, and navigating our own aging bodies — the idea of “taking care of ourselves” became vague, confusing… and honestly, just another pressure.
We’re told to “practice self-care.” But no one tells us how when we’re stretched to our limit. No one talks about the guilt. No one talks about the emotional labor. No one talks about the resentment that builds when everyone needs something from you and there’s nothing left for yourself.
For a while, I thought self-care was something I could check off a list:
A long bath. A walk outside. A glass of wine and a face mask.
But those things didn’t heal the deep exhaustion. They didn’t make me feel whole again. They didn’t stop the spinning thoughts or the aching loneliness.
That’s when I realized:
This isn’t about self-care. This is about reclaiming my life. It’s about reclaiming the right to slow down. To say no. To stop over-functioning for people who don’t even notice how much you’re carrying.
Real care? It’s not pretty or polished. It’s fierce. It’s quiet. It’s brave. It’s looking in the mirror and finally saying: “I deserve more than survival.”
So, if you’re out there — tired, overwhelmed, unsure what self-care even means — you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. Maybe this isn’t your moment to add another thing to your plate. Maybe this is your moment to lay it all down. To reclaim what’s been lost — your time, your truth, your energy, your joy.
Because that? That’s real self-care.
