World Health Day: What Health Really Means for Women 40 and Beyond
Apr 07, 2025Today is World Health Day. This day is recognized across the globe, but I want to bring it closer to home—closer to you. Because if you’re anything like the women I know and the woman I am myself, you’ve probably spent much of your life taking care of everyone else… and maybe putting your own health on the back burner.
So today, let’s pause and ask a powerful question:
What does health really mean—for women like us, in this chapter of life?
For me, health has become less about perfection and more about connection. Connection to my body. Connection to how I’m feeling emotionally. Connection to community. And to purpose.
When I was younger, “health” was all about fitting into clothes, counting calories, or pushing myself to exhaustion. Now? It’s about energy. Sleep. Blood sugar balance. Emotional regulation. Feeling grounded in a world that moves so fast.
And let’s be honest: the world doesn’t always see women over 40 as the priority when it comes to health.
But we know better. We are worth the investment.
On this World Health Day, I want to leave you with three pillars that I believe every woman 40 and older deserves to build her health around:
1. Nourishment without guilt.
Food is medicine, but it’s also joy. Let’s shift from restriction to replenishment. What does your body truly need to thrive today?
2. Movement that honors your season.
Gone are the days of “no pain, no gain.” Whether it’s walking, chair yoga, strength training, or dancing in your kitchen—move in a way that supports your body, not punishes it.
3. Mental and emotional wellbeing.
This is the one that’s often overlooked. But menopause, midlife transitions, caregiving, loss, change—it’s a lot. You deserve support, community, and space to process what you’re going through.
So, on this World Health Day, here’s your invitation:
Take one small step today that moves you toward holistic health.
Drink that water. Journal for 5 minutes. Get outside. Set a boundary. Rest. Laugh. Cry. Nourish. Move. Breathe.
You are not too late. You are not alone. And you are absolutely still blooming.
Until next time, take care of yourself. You matter. Your health matters. And I’m cheering you on every step of the way.
